In general practice since 1985 and having spent a number of years working as a manager in a firm of international tax consultants, Eddie has a vast knowledge of accounting and taxation matters. His experience in dealing with a wide range of businesses from small traders to large groups of companies has provided Eddie with many insights into best business practice.

Eddie believes that too many business owners spend too much time working in their businesses and too little time in creating a vision and planning a strategy. He takes a personal involvement in client businesses and acts as a business partner and adviser to a number of firms.

Outside Work:

Eddie has two teenage children, a son and a daughter, as well as a son of pre-school age. Any spare time he has is spent in contemplating which is worse, the teenage mood swings or the child tantrums. Lucky enough, he doesn’t have too much spare time on his hands! No wonder he can usually be found in the office late into the evening.

Like the majority of the Connah Goldsworthy team, Eddie is a West Ham United supporter and looks forward to the day when West Ham will once again rise in glory and win the World Cup for England.

Experience & Specialisms:

Mike qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1964. He trained and qualified in a leading firm of city accountants. In 1967, he set up practice in Chelmsford, establishing Connah Goldsworthy as a client-focused independent firm of accountants, a philosophy that continues today.

Over the years Mike has developed a client base consisting largely of family companies and owner managed businesses. He has always insisted on a personal involvement in the businesses of his clients and by working closely with his clients over the years, Mike has gained expertise in dealing with the various complex issues facing small businesses and their owners.

Outside Work:

Mike is a season-ticket holder at West Ham United and has been for many long years. He is actively involved with the local business community and regularly contributes to the continuing success of a number of our local restaurants!

Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Experience & Specialisms:

Neil has worked in general practice since 1966 and has gained a reputation for his honesty, dedication and knowledge. Post qualification he spent a brief period with a large firm in the City and then a small firm in Southend-on-Sea, after which he went on to start and build Neil Hamper & Co., his own general practice.

Neil developed an interest in tax investigation work and was invited to join the Taxation and VAT Committee of the Federation of Small Businesses. He has been active in the direct and indirect taxation field, becoming Chairman of the Taxation and Financial Affairs Committee in 2002.

He is a member of the Tax Faculty Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and has also been a Member of the Tax Faculty's Direct Taxes Procedural Sub-Committee for approximately ten years. Neil became President of the South Essex Society of Chartered Accountants in 1997.

Outside Work:

Neil has a multitude of interests, too many to mention, but he particularly enjoys travelling, walking, singing and socialising with friends, colleagues and, of course, clients.

He is also a regular contributor to the financial press and has many technical articles published.

Experience & Specialisms:

In general practice since 1990. Gained vast knowledge in accounting and auditing matters. Worked on a wide range of businesses from small sole traders to large groups of companies.

Also worked in industry for a number of years as a financial controller for a large group. Gained vast knowledge of developing and implementing financial controls, dealing with more complex vat issues and the day to day problems of managing a department.

Outside Work:

Having been scared of his own shadow for many years he now regularly practices in the art of Wing Chun. It is hard to believe he actually pays to be hurt on a regular basis!

Lives with two ladies, one being his step daughter (he’s not that lucky!). Plans to extend the family soon.
